What is the process for filing an application for a travel document?
If you’re planning on traveling outside of the United States and are an immigrant living in Indiana, you’ll need to apply for a travel document. This document will provide you with permission to come back into the United States after your trip. The first step in applying for a travel document is to fill out Form I-131, which is the Application for Travel Document. You’ll need to fill out the form completely and accurately. You’ll also need to submit two recent passport photographs with the application. Next, you’ll need to submit the application and photos to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). You can do this at your local USCIS office. You’ll also need to include the applicable filing fee and evidence to support your application. In some cases, you may be required to appear in person for an interview with an immigration officer. The officer will ask questions to confirm your identity and make sure the information in your application is accurate. After your application is processed, you will receive a notice in the mail letting you know whether you’ve been approved or denied for the travel document. If approved, the USCIS will send you the travel document. If denied, you will be given the reason for the denial. Once you have the travel document, you’ll be able to leave the country and reenter as long as the document is valid. It’s important to remember that you must have the document with you at all times while traveling.
