What are the duties of a trustee?
A trustee in Hawaiian inheritance law is responsible for managing assets that have been left for the benefit of the beneficiaries of an estate. He or she must ensure that the assets are managed according to the wishes of the deceased, as expressed in the will or trust document. The trustee is also responsible for collecting all necessary information to determine the value of the estate, and distributing that value among the beneficiaries of the estate. The trustee must honor the wishes of the deceased, and must act in accordance with Hawaiian state law. He or she must also ensure that the estate is properly and timely filed with the appropriate court. The trustee must provide timely and accurate information to the beneficiaries, and should ensure that all taxes are paid before distributing the estate. The duties of a trustee can be complex, and he or she must also administer the estate in a fiduciary capacity. This means that the trustee must act in the best interest of the beneficiaries of the estate, and must make sure that the beneficiaries have access to accurate financial information about the estate. The trustee must also ensure that all expenses of the estate are paid in a timely manner. Lastly, the trustee must distribute the assets to the beneficiaries according to the terms of the will or trust.
