What is the International Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC)?
The International Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) is an international treaty created to protect the rights of children around the world. It was adopted by the United Nations in 1989 and entered into force in 1990. The Convention is based on an understanding that the rights of children should be respected and protected. The CRC is made up of 54 articles and sets out the rights of children in areas such as health, education, family environment, leisure, and cultural activities. The CRC is an important part of international law because it gives children a voice and makes their rights visible and enforceable by the international community. It is a landmark document that continues to set the standard for the international protection of children’s rights.
