How do I qualify for Social Security Disability?
In order to qualify for Social Security Disability in California, you must meet certain criteria to demonstrate that you are disabled. To be considered disabled, you must have a physical or mental condition that has lasted, or is expected to last, for at least a year or result in death. In order to be approved for Social Security Disability benefits, you must meet the definition of medically disabled according to Social Security. To qualify, you must have a severe physical or mental impairment that prevents you from being able to perform any type of substantial gainful activity. This means that you cannot do any type of work on a full-time basis due to your disability. In addition, you must also meet the income and resource requirements set by Social Security. Your income and resources must not be above the limits set by the government in order to qualify for benefits. Your resources are generally considered to be cash, bank accounts, investments, and items that you own that could be sold for cash. Finally, the Social Security Administration (SSA) will review your medical records to determine your eligibility for benefits. They will assess your medical condition and other related factors to determine if you are medically disabled. If your disability is found to be severe enough to prevent you from working, you may be eligible for Social Security Disability benefits.
