How much money can I receive from Social Security Disability?

Social Security Disability (SSD) is an insurance program for workers and their families who are disabled and can no longer work. If you qualify for SSD benefits, you will receive a monthly payment from the Social Security Administration (SSA). The amount of money you can receive depends on the amount of work credits you have earned over the years, which are reflected in your earnings record from the SSA. The SSA uses the average of your earnings to determine your payment amount. In Virginia, if you meet the disability criteria according to SSA guidelines, your monthly benefit amount is determined by adding together a base amount of $783 and an amount equal to a percentage of earnings up to a maximum of $3,807. For example, if your average earnings are $1,200, your monthly benefit amount would be $1,783 ($783 + 1/2 of your average earnings). There is also a set minimum amount of $931 and a maximum of $2,674. SSD benefits are not taxable, so you can expect the amount you receive to remain consistent.
