Are there any special benefits available for veterans who are veterans of the Second Gulf War?
Yes, there are special benefits available for veterans of the Second Gulf War in California. The California Department of Veterans Affairs (CalVet) offers financial assistance to veterans who served in the military between August 2, 1990, and December 31, 2011. Veterans who meet the requirements are eligible for a one-time payment of $500 and/or a grant of up to $2,500, which can be used for educational expenses. Other advantages include free tuition and fees for California State University and community college systems, priority enrollment at California universities, and priority for California veterans in hiring for state jobs. CalVet also provides services to Second Gulf War veterans in the form of vocational rehabilitation, home loans and grants, and supplemental service-connected disability compensation. The CalVet Home Loans Program offers a no-down payment loan to eligible veterans, while the CalVet Home Grants Program provides grants to assist with home repairs and/or modifications. Additional benefits are available to Second Gulf War veterans through the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). These include emergency financial assistance, scholarship programs, and mental health and wellness services. For more information on these programs, veterans can contact their local VFW or visit their website.
