What are the qualifications for veterans disability benefits?

Veterans in Washington who have served in the U.S. military and have become disabled due to a service-related injury may qualify for disability benefits. To be eligible for benefits, a veteran must have a disability that was caused or aggravated by their military service and that resulted in a current impairment. The disability must have been incurred either while serving during wartime or peacetime, while training or while serving as a reservist or National Guard member. Once a veteran has established service connection for their disability, then they must be able to demonstrate that their disability is severe enough to warrant a disability rating. The severity of the disability is rated on a scale from 0 to 100 percent in 10 percent increments. The higher the veteran is rated, the more financial compensation they are eligible for. In order to be eligible for VA disability benefits, veterans must submit an application for disability benefits through the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). As part of this process, veterans must provide evidence of their military service, including copies of their DD-214, which is the certificate of their service, as well as documents that relate to their disability. Once their application has been approved by the VA, then a veteran can receive their disability benefits.
