Can veterans with a disability receive educational assistance?

Yes, veterans with a disability can receive educational assistance in the state of Virginia. The Virginia Department of Veterans Services provides several educational benefits for veterans with disabilities, such as the Virginia Tuition Assistance Grant, the Disability Assistance Grant, the Disability Honorably Discharged Veteran Grant, and the Survivors and Dependents Education Program. The Virginia Tuition Assistance Grant assists veterans who have been determined by the Department of Veterans Affairs as having a service-connected disability and require educational assistance that other forms of financial aid do not provide. The Disability Assistance Grant is designed for veterans with a service-connected disability rating of 50% or more and who require educational assistance that other forms of financial aid do not provide. The Disability Honorably Discharged Veteran Grant Program is for veterans with a service-connected disability rating of 30% to 49%, and who require educational assistance that other forms of financial aid do not provide. The Survivors and Dependents Education Program provides educational benefits for the dependents and survivors of veterans who either died while in service or were permanently and totally disabled due to a service-connected disability. In order to qualify for any of these educational benefits, veterans must meet the eligibility requirements set by the State of Virginia. These requirements can include maintaining a certain GPA, taking a minimum number of credit or clock hours, and/or meeting specific income levels. It is important for veterans to be aware of the eligibility criteria so that they can ensure that they are able to receive the maximum benefit available.
