Are employers required to provide employees with work breaks?
Yes, employers in Maryland are required to provide employees with work breaks. According to the Maryland Wage and Hour Law, employees must be given at least a 10-minute break for every four hours worked. Employees under the age of 18 must be given a 30-minute meal break for every five hours worked. In all cases, the breaks should be taken near the middle of the work period and should not be counted as work time and should not be deducted from the employee’s wages.
