What is a reward program?

A reward program is a type of incentive program offered by the government to encourage and protect whistleblowers in Washington. A whistleblower is an individual who reports illegal activities or fraud that is taking place in a company or organization. By offering rewards to whistleblowers for providing information about these activities, the government can help to prevent, detect, and prosecute fraud and other wrongdoing. The reward program is offered by the Washington State Department of Financial Institutions and is open to any whistleblower who provides information to the government that results in a successful legal action. Under the program, a whistleblower may be eligible to receive anywhere from 10% to 30% of the total fines, penalties, and/or other damages collected by the government. The reward program was created in order to assist whistleblowers in coming forward with information that could be helpful in prosecuting fraud, or other criminal activities. In addition, the program has been credited with helping to save the state millions of dollars in the process.
