How long do I have to report an injury to my employer?
In Washington, you must report any injury that occurred while you were on the job to your employer as soon as possible and within 30 days of the date of the injury. Once you have reported the injury to your employer, they can then initiate the process of filing for workers compensation benefits. If you don’t report your injury to your employer within 30 days, you may miss out on any potential benefits that you would be eligible to receive. Workers compensation benefits can be extremely helpful in providing financial compensation to cover medical bills, lost wages, and other expenses resulting from a workplace injury or illness. If you do not report your injury to your employer within 30 days, you may be able to file a claim for workers compensation benefits but it may be harder to prove that the injury or illness is work-related. It is also important to note that, in certain circumstances, such as if the injury caused you to be off of work for more than three days, your employer may be required to file a claim for workers compensation benefits even if you do not report the injury. For this reason, it is best to inform your employer of any workplace injury or illness as soon as possible and within 30 days of the date of the injury. Doing so can ensure that you get the benefits you deserve and can help make the process of filing for workers compensation benefits easier.
