What if I'm unable to work due to my injury?

If you are unable to work due to an injury sustained on the job, you may be entitled to workers’ compensation benefits in Washington. Workers’ compensation is a system of insurance that provides payments to workers who become injured or ill due to their job, regardless of fault. It is designed to provide financial support to individuals who can no longer work due to an occupational injury or illness. Benefits available through workers’ compensation in Washington include medical benefits to cover the cost of any medical treatment related to the injury, and wage replacement for any wages lost due to being unable to work. If you are totally disabled due to your injury, you may be able to receive weekly benefits up to a maximum of $650 a week. You may also be eligible for Vocational Rehabilitation services in order to help you find a suitable new job. In order to receive these benefits, you will need to file a claim with the Washington Department of Labor & Industries. You will need to provide your medical records, any evidence of your lost wages, and details of your injury. Your employer will also be required to provide information about the incident. Once your claim is approved, you can start to receive benefits. It’s important to note that you must file a claim within one year of the date of the injury. Otherwise, you may be ineligible for benefits.
