What is the National Organic Program (NOP)?

The National Organic Program (NOP) is a program established by the US Department of Agriculture to regulate the production and labeling of organic crops and products. The NOP sets standards for how organic foods are grown and processed, as well as how they are labeled and marketed. Under the NOP, organic production must meet certain criteria. Additionally, the Department of Food and Agriculture conducts random inspections and testing to ensurethat products labeled “Organic” are actually produced according to the NOP standards.
