What is the process for obtaining an endorsement to carry hazardous materials?

In order to obtain an endorsement to carry hazardous materials in Utah, an individual must meet certain criteria and complete several steps. The applicant must be at least 18 years of age and must possess a valid pilot certificate or a private pilot certificate. The applicant must also have a valid medical certificate, and they must complete FAA-approved, specific ground and flight training related to the endorsement they are trying to obtain. The ground training must include completing FAA-approved training materials and passing a knowledge test. The flight training must include a logbook endorsement from an instructor, a test for the endorsement, and a checkride with a FAA examiner. In addition, the applicant must obtain several endorsements in their pilot record through the FAA’s Integrated Airman Certification and Rating Application (IACRA) system. These endorsements include a High-Altitude Endorsement, a Preflight Hazardous Material Loading Check, a Hazardous Material Loading Certificate, and a Flight Proficiency Check. Once all of the necessary criteria have been met and all training and endorsements have been completed, the applicant can submit the completed documents to the local FSDO office for final review and processing. If all of the requirements are met and the applicants qualifications are evidence-based, the endorsement will be granted.
