What is a section 504 plan?

A Section 504 plan is a document that outlines the rights of individuals with disabilities as outlined in Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. This act prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability in any program or activity receiving federal financial assistance. Section 504 plans outline what accommodations should be made for students with a disability to ensure they can receive a free and appropriate education in the least restrictive environment.
