Who is eligible to vote in the United States?

In the United States, most states have established the same eligibility guidelines for voting. To be eligible to vote in Virginia, you must be a citizen of the United States, at least 18 years old on Election Day, a resident of Virginia, and not a convicted felon or adjudicated mentally incapacitated. If you meet these requirements, you may register to vote at the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), local voter registration offices, or your local Election Office. You can also register online at the Virginia State Board of Elections website. In addition, in order to vote in federal elections, you must also be a United States citizen. This means that permanent residents, temporary residents, and other non-citizens are not eligible to vote in federal elections. In some states, like Virginia, you must present proof of your identity when registering to vote. This includes showing a driver’s license, proof of address, or other valid forms of identification. In general, those who are eligible to vote in the United States include citizens of the United States who are at least 18 years old and have registered to vote in their state of residence. Non-citizens and those who don’t meet the requirements of their state are not eligible to vote.
