What are the requirements for providing workers' compensation?

In Idaho, employers must provide workers’ compensation insurance to employees that covers medical care, rehabilitation costs, and wage replacement if an employee is injured at work or suffers a work-related illness. Idaho employers are required to provide this coverage in order to protect and compensate employees who suffer work-related injuries and illnesses. Employers with one or more employees are required to have workers’ compensation insurance coverage. If an employer fails to provide the coverage, they may be held liable for all costs associated with a work-related injury or illness. Workers’ compensation benefits are based on the type and severity of injury. For minor injuries, workers’ compensation may provide temporary disability payments, reimbursement of medical expenses, and reimbursement of lost wages during the time of recovery. For more serious injuries, workers’ compensation may provide permanent disability payments, additional payments for lost wages, and rehabilitation costs. Employees in Idaho have the right to file a claim for workers’ compensation benefits if they are injured or suffer an illness in the course of their employment. Employees should report injuries to their employer as soon as possible, and must file the claim within 180 days of the incident in order to receive benefits.
