What is an L visa?

An L visa is a type of employment-based visa that is available to individuals who wish to work in the United States temporarily. It is issued by the U.S. Department of State and can be used for a variety of purposes, such as intracompany transfers, treaty traders, and representatives from foreign businesses. In Washington, the L visa is one of the most popular types of visas used by foreign workers. The L visa is primarily issued to qualified employees of U.S. companies who have been transferred to the United States to work in a professional capacity. It is also available to foreign nationals who are involved in an international trade agreement, as well as representatives of foreign businesses who have a branch or affiliate in the United States. To qualify for an L visa, applicants must have a job offer from a U.S. employer, and the position must be either a manager, executive, or specialized knowledge worker. Additionally, the position must be related to the applicant’s prior experience. Furthermore, the applicant must have worked with the prospective employer in a qualifying capacity for at least one year in the past three years. The validity period of an L visa varies depending on the type of worker and their specific circumstances, but it generally lasts between three and five years. Additionally, the applicant may apply for a two-year extension, if necessary. All L visa holders are also eligible to apply for permanent residence in the United States, if they choose.
