How can I apply for an employment-based green card?

Employment-based green cards are documents issued by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) that allow an individual to temporarily or permanently work in the United States. To apply for an employment-based green card in Washington, you must first have an employer who is willing to sponsor you. Your employer must submit a petition for a green card to USCIS on your behalf. This petition must include evidence that you are qualified for the job, including proof of any education and professional experience you may have. It must also demonstrate that the job is in the same or a related field to your education and experience. Once the petition is approved, you can then apply for the green card by filing form I-485 with USCIS. You will need to provide documents including evidence of identity and proof of relationship to your employer. If applicable, you may also need to submit evidence that you are not inadmissible to the United States due to criminal history or disease, among other reasons. Once the application is approved, you will receive your employment-based green card and will be able to legally work in the United States. Additionally, if you and your employer meet the requirements for permanent residence, you may be able to eventually obtain a “green card” that allows you to become a permanent U.S. resident.
