What is the H-2B visa?

The H-2B visa is a type of work visa that is issued to non-immigrants in the United States who have a job or job offer in a certain field. This visa is specifically for foreign workers who are temporary and have no intention of becoming permanent residents. The H-2B visa is granted to those who are looking to come to the United States to fill a certain kind of job, such as seasonal workers in the landscaping and hospitality industries. In the state of Washington, employers must show that they cannot find capable and qualified workers in the United States to fill the roles they have available and that the foreign worker is not taking a job away from an American. Additionally, employers must provide evidence of the wages, working conditions, and terms of the job that are offered to foreign workers. The H-2B visa is granted for a limited time, usually no longer than a year. The U.S. Department of Labor must certify that the hiring of foreign workers will not harm any U.S. workers. Foreign workers must also be provided with adequate housing, transportation, and safety equipment in order to perform their work. Any foreign workers applying for an H-2B visa must provide proof that the job is not in violation of any labor laws and will not create more than a minimal level of disruption to the US workforce.
