Is it illegal to withhold wages?
In Arizona, it is illegal for an employer to withhold wages from an employee. This applies to all wages already earned and due to the employee. In some instances, employers are allowed to withhold wages from an employee in order to cover any state or federal taxes, benefits, and other deductions due from the employee. All of these laws are in place to protect employees, so that they are not taken advantage of by their employers. If an employee believes that their employer is illegally withholding wages, they can file a complaint with the Arizona Department of Labor or other applicable state agency. It is important to note that if an employer is found guilty of violating these labor laws, they may face significant financial penalties.
