How much money can I receive from Social Security Disability?
In California, the amount of money you can receive from Social Security Disability depends on the severity of your disability. Generally, the most you can receive is $2,861 a month. Depending on your individual situation, you may qualify for a higher amount. In order to qualify for Social Security Disability benefits in California, you must have worked in jobs that are covered by Social Security and have a medical condition that is severe enough to render you unable to do any substantial gainful activity for at least twelve months. Additionally, you must be under the age of 65. If you are eligible for Social Security Disability benefits, you may also be eligible for additional money, such as Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Dependent’s benefits. SSI is for people with a limited income and resources and provides assistance for basic needs such as food and shelter. Dependent’s benefits, on the other hand, are for people who are disabled and have dependents. In order to determine your exact benefit amount, you need to contact the local Social Security Administration office and submit an application. Once the application is processed, they will let you know if you are eligible and the amount of benefits you will receive.
