What are some of the financial incentives available to whistleblowers?

In the state of Virginia, whistleblowers are financially incentivized for exposing fraud and other violations of the law. Whistleblowers are entitled to a percentage of the funds that are recovered as part of a successful enforcement action. Furthermore, employers cannot retaliate against a whistleblower by terminating their employment or in any other way. Under the False Claims Act, whistleblowers are eligible to receive between 15-30% of any money recovered by the government. Additionally, the whistleblower is protected from any retaliation in the form of discharge, demotion, suspension, threats, harassment or any other form of discrimination in the workplace. In addition to the protection under the False Claims Act, Virginia also has its own Whistleblower Protection Act. This act allows whistleblowers to seek damages, injunctions, reinstatement, back pay, and other equitable relief. The financial incentives available to whistleblowers are designed to encourage individuals to report fraudulent activities. In this way, the government can take action against those who are breaking the law and protect the public’s money. By providing financial incentives, whistleblowers can be sure that they will be financially rewarded for their actions.
