Who is eligible for workers' compensation benefits?
In Washington, employees who suffer an injury or illness due to their job may be eligible for workers’ compensation benefits. These benefits can include payments for medical costs, lost wages, and other costs associated with the injury. Eligibility for workers’ compensation benefits is based on the employee’s financial status, the type of injury, and other factors. Generally, to be eligible for benefits, the employee must have suffered an injury or illness as a result of their job, and they must have reported the injury or illness to their employer. In addition, the injury must have occurred while the employee is performing a job-related task or in the course of their job duties. If the injury is due to the employee’s negligence, then they may not be eligible for benefits. Additionally, the injury must result in a temporary or permanent disability. Benefits are calculated based on the extent of the injury or illness, and the employee’s salary at the time of the injury. Finally, it’s important to note that employees do not need to be a citizen of Washington in order to be eligible for workers’ compensation benefits. In fact, many undocumented workers who suffer an injury on the job in Washington may still be able to collect benefits.
