Is retaliation legal if I am wrongfully terminated?

In Washington, it is illegal for an employer to retaliate against an employee who is wrongfully terminated. If the employer is found to have wrongfully terminated an employee, they cannot legally retaliate against the employee by taking action such as preventing them from finding jobs in the same field or blacklisting them from potential employers. In addition to this, Washington is a “just cause” state, meaning that the employer must have a valid and justifiable reason for the termination and cannot be retaliating against the employee for any reason. Even if the employee has done something to warrant the termination, the employer should have treated them fairly and according to the terms of their employment contract. If the employee believes that they have been wrongfully terminated and that the employer has retaliated against them, they have the right to file a lawsuit for damages against the employer. The employee must prove that the termination was wrongful and that there was retaliation involved. It is possible for the employee to receive damages including back pay, benefits, and punitive damages in some cases.
