How do I file an ADA complaint?

If you believe that you’ve experienced disability discrimination in North Carolina, you can file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Justice. This is done by completing an ADA complaint form, which is available online. Once the form is completed, it should be sent via U.S. mail or fax to the relevant office. When filing an ADA complaint, it’s important to include as much detail as possible to support your claim. This includes the date and circumstances of the alleged discrimination, the identity of any responsible individuals or organizations, and any other information related to the situation. If possible, it’s helpful to provide any documents or other evidence that can support your complaint. Along with your ADA complaint form, you should also include an “Information Release Authorization” form. This will authorize the DOJ to gather information related to your claim from other sources, such as the alleged violator and third-party witnesses. Once your complaint is received, the DOJ will investigate your claim and make a determination on whether or not it has merit. If the DOJ finds that your complaint is justified, they may take legal action against the responsible party. If not, they may offer you other remedies, such as mediation or assistance in filing a civil action. No matter the outcome of your complaint, you have the right to appeal the decision if you don’t agree with it. You can do this by filing a written request to the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division within 30 days of the final decision.
