What is the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW)?

The International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women, or CEDAW, is an international agreement that was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on December 18, 1979. It is a comprehensive, international agreement that forms an agenda for women’s rights in every country that has adopted the convention. The CEDAW is designed to prevent gender-based discrimination and promote equality for women in all aspects of public and private life, including education, marriage, health care, and employment.
