This fee covers the cost of processing the application, so it must be paid when the application is submitted. Additionally, the card must be renewed annually, and the fee for renewal is also $50. An individual who is a veteran and receiving care through the VA or Medicaid can have their fee waived. Additionally, minors and individuals on temporary disability can also have their fee waived.
