What is the difference between agricultural law and food law?

Agricultural law and food law both involve legal regulations concerning the production, sale and use of agriculture and food. However, they involve different laws and regulations. Agricultural law deals primarily with the legal regulations related to the production of agricultural products, such as crop production, livestock production and irrigation. It is concerned with issues such as property rights, taxes, environmental regulations, contracts and labor laws. Food law, on the other hand, focuses on regulations related to the sale, processing, preparation and consumption of food. It covers a wide range of topics including food safety and labeling, food marketing, food additives, food inspection and food hygiene. Food law also covers the regulations governing the use of genetic modification, the use of organic food, and the production and sale of genetically modified foods. In California, both agricultural law and food law are governed by the California Department of Food and Agriculture. This department works to ensure food safety and enforce the regulations set out in both fields. Additionally, they oversee licenses, permits and inspections that are necessary to ensure the quality and safety of food products.
