What is the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR)?
The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) is an international treaty that sets out the civil and political rights of individuals around the world. The rights contained in the treaty include freedom of expression, freedom of religion, the right to a fair trial, the right to life, and the right of non-discrimination, among others. It was adopted in 1966 by the United Nations General Assembly and has been ratified by 164 countries, including the United States.
