What treaties have Native Americans signed with the United States?
Native Americans in Oregon have signed numerous treaties with the United States throughout history. The first of these treaties was the Treaty With the Rogue River, which was signed in 1853. This treaty set aside six million acres of land for the Rogue River Indians and other tribes to use as their home. The second treaty was the Treaty With the Umatilla, which was signed in 1855. This treaty set aside four million acres of land for the Umatilla people and other tribes to use as their home. In 1855, the United States signed the Treaty With the Yakama, Walla Walla, and Umatilla Tribes. This treaty set aside three million acres of land in the Yakima Valley for the Yakama, Walla Walla, and Umatilla tribes to use as their home. In 1864, the United States signed the Treaty With the Nez Perce, which set aside three million acres of land for the Nez Perce people and other tribes to call their home. The United States also signed several other treaties with Native American tribes in Oregon throughout the late 19th and early 20th centuries. These treaties included the Treaty with the Klamath and Moleal Tribe in 1864, the Treaty with the Coos Indians in 1865, and the Treaties with the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde and Siletz Reservations in 1855 and 1864, respectively. All these treaties provided Native American tribes with land and other rights.
