What is the reasonable accommodation process?

Reasonable accommodation is a process that helps ensure that people with disabilities can take part in activities and still have equal access as people without disabilities. The process is in place to help people with disabilities make sure that they can take part in activities, even if an activity might be difficult for them. In California, the process starts with an employer providing reasonable accommodations to an employee or individual with a disability. The employer must provide an accommodation that allows the employee or individual with a disability to perform the essential functions of their job in the most integrated setting. It must also be based on the individual’s needs and not cause an undue hardship for the employer or other employees. The individual or employee must then make a request for the accommodation in writing or verbally, and the employer must respond in writing or verbally to the request. The employer must then provide the individual or employee with the accommodation unless it would create an undue hardship for the employer or other employees. The reasonable accommodation process is designed to help ensure that people with disabilities are able to take part in activities, and that their rights are not violated in any way. It also ensures that employers are providing accurate and fair accommodations for their employees, and that both parties are in agreement about the process.
