What is the EB-2 visa?

The EB-2 visa is a type of employment based immigration law for permanent residence in California. It is intended for those with “exceptional ability” and “advanced degree professionals” who are looking to work in the United States. It is typically issued to those with at least a U.S. bachelor degree, or those with foreign degrees equivalent to an American bachelor degree, and five years of post-degree work experience. The EB-2 visa is issued by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) after the applicant’s employer files a petition and appeals for the visa. The applicant must also pass a rigorous medical exam, and most applicants will also have to demonstrate their language literacy. Once a petition is filed, the EB-2 visa process can take up to two years or more. Those with an EB-2 visa are allowed to live and work in the United States for an indefinite amount of time, and they may acquire a green card, which will allow them to live and work in the United States permanently.
