What is the Veterans' Employment and Training Services (VETS)?

The Veterans’ Employment and Training Services (VETS) is a program in California that assists veterans in their transition from military to civilian life. It provides training, employment, and job search assistance to veterans and active duty personnel who are soon to be discharged. The goal of VETS is to help veterans and those soon to be discharged to find work in their desired sector, and to provide guidance in job search skills and resume writing skills. VETS is administered by the California Employment Development Department (EDD) and funded by the US Department of Labor. It provides workshops and seminars to help veterans and their families become successful in their job searches. VETS also offers career counseling, job search assistance, including assistance with developing resumes and job applications, and job referrals to employers who are looking for veterans. VETS also provides assistance with job-seeking expenses, such as transportation, work-related clothing and supplies, and job training costs for veterans and those soon to be discharged. This assistance is provided through the Veterans’ Employment and Training Services Program, which is a part of the California Department of Veterans Affairs. The Veterans’ Employment and Training Services program also offers assistance to employers who are interested in hiring veterans. Employers may receive tax credits, reduced fees and other incentives for hiring veterans or those soon to be discharged. The ultimate goal of VETS is to ensure that veterans and those soon to be discharged are able to transition into civilian life successfully, and that they are able to find meaningful employment in their desired fields.
